Stevens, Arabella Miss, d. 1870, age 23, Grafton, Poison, Grafton
But Lorain Constitutionalist newspaper, 20 Apr 1870 states
"Suicide -- Isabelle Stevens, aged 25 years, residing with her mother at Grafton Center, this county, commited suicide a short time since by taking sugar of lead and bichromate of potash. She died in a few hours after taking the poisonous preparation. At the time of taking the dose she was suffering under a fit of insanity. The occurrence took place several days since, but there seemed to be no one in that vicinity enterprising enough to report the affair to us in time for last week's issue."
Also Elyria Independent Democrat, 13 Apr 1870, states: Suicide of a Young Lady - We are pained to record the death by suicide of Miss Isabella Stevens of Grafton, which occurred on the 5th inst. at the residence of her mother. We have not learned the details of this said affair, other than the fact that she took a preparation of potash which had been used for coloring purposes, with the delibrate intention of destroying her life, and died a few hours thereafter, aged 26 years. She was living alone with her mother, and was a lady of unblemished character, beloved by her acquaintances. What cloud of sorrow or trouble overshadowed her mind and led to her tragical death by suicide, ks known to few if any of her friends."
